Misfit Adds Smart Features To A Classic Watch Design

American Fossil group’s wearable brand Misfit has launched an interesting smart watch. Dubbed the Misfit Command, this watch combines classic analogue design with the power and connectivity of a modern smartwatch.

The Misfit Command has a sleek minimal look. It has a 44-mm case made from stainless steel. The watch is waterproof and can survive a 50 meters dive. It has conventional hands for time keeping.

The Hybrid smart watch can track of your activity and sleep. You can set goals for exercise and track them using the app. It also lets you receive phone notifications for text, email, and call. There’s even an option to use the Misfit Command to control IoT (Internet of Things) devices.



The watch uses Bluetooth 4.1 to sync with your smartphone. The Command does not require charging, as it is powered by a replaceable CR2430 coin cell battery, which lasts up to one year.

The Misfit Command comes with interchangeable 20 mm straps. The watch is up for pre-order the Command for $112 with a sport strap and $128 for metal bracelet. The shipping is expected to commence on November 28.

HOW DID YOU COME-UP WITH THE W. T. AUTHOR AESTHETIC?

For our debut product we looked to the humble beginnings of gent’s watches that came with the turn of the 20th century, concentrating on the pioneering ideas of that era (the transformation from pocket watch to wristwatch, the shoulders brazed onto the case and typography applied to the numbers and packaging). Our trademark at the 12-position is complimented by the red crown, designed to be instantaneously recognised if the watch was ever to be covered by a gentleman’s sleeve. Again, our bold indices are used to state our brand’s intent for a unique aesthetic.
WHAT’S THE BRAND’S MISSION?
We give every part of this project room to breathe and develop organically. Each component has had the opportunity to evolve allowing us to really get under the skin of the design and pinpoint the aspects that we want to use in order to sum up the decade. We will be pushing forwards to celebrate style innovations and technological breakthroughs meaning everything will be considered along the way with no stone left unturned. As far as the future designs are concerned we are happy with the framework and we certainly have the ideas in place.

Our workshop is based in the Shropshire countryside where we receive each tailor-made component from every corner of the globe (from USA to South America, Asia to Switzerland and of course, Great Britain). We assemble each product and fit precision movements, tested above and beyond the usual quality standards. We make and fit each strap from beautiful Buffalo hides onto the watch, where it will sit in the packaging with the signed book and limited edition screen print.
We want as much control of the product as possible and this will only grow as we continue to progress. We want to ensure quality, but our primary objective is really just to be us. Throwback Thursday: In4mation x G-Shock GLX-150X-7

Here's a closer look at the G-Shock collaboration model with Hawaii based streetwear label In4mation, following the success of five earlier collab G-Shocks. The GLX-150X-7 is an extension of the redesigned G-LIDE series with a large case design, and offers Tide and Moon Graph functions while seamlessly combining G-Shock’s rugged and tough technology with the In4mation alternative design concept.

Stylistic flourishes include In4mation logo prints on the caseback, band and a hit of red at the strap holder, and of course a custom design cardboard box completes the package.

The In4mation x G-Shock GLX-150X-7 was launched on 6 July 2012, retailing at USD110.

Here's a closer look at one of this month's new releases, and a brand new G-Shock line the GAC-110. We've coined this model the Eva Unit 1, because of its colour scheme being very similar to the bio-mecha from the anime series Neon Genesis Evangeleon.

Vostok Amphibia Compass Bezel 2007

Another one of my Vostok Amphibia(n)s by the Vostok Chistopol Watch Factory.


With a compass bezel... not everyone likes it but I don't mind it... you can still use it to mark time. It rotates.



This is a Vostok Ampibia wrist watch with a Cal. 2416B automatic movement -- self-winding but can be hand wound as well.



The movement is like this one (but not this decorated version of course).

Date of manufacture is marked as 10.07.07 -- tenth day of July in the year of our Lord 2007.



And it cost me RUB 1,300 in 2007 (US$ 36 at current rates).


I wore it from 2007 to 2011.
Used it often for sauna session - at least once a week, which finally was its undoing. Time keeping became very erratic in 2011, sometimes it would stall for no reason, at other times it would be way too fast -- those sauna sessions, I think, got to it.
So early 2012 I replaced it with this Scuba Dude.



Wear and tear -- all mine.The thick acrylic (?) crystal can take a lot punishment but it does not go unnoticed.



Stainless steel bracelet... of the cheaper variety but serves its purpose.

If I remember correctly it was me who dropped it and cracked the face glass.

Titanium Lug Adapters for the Citizen Promaster Professional Diver Autozilla

After the rubber strap failures on my Seiko Prospex Emperor Tuna  and Bell & Ross BR02-92  I got really concerned with the rest of the other rubber strapped watches in my collection. When the rubber straps of those watches fail, it should not be difficult to find another strap (definitely not rubber!) as replace except for one watch. This watch is my Citizen Promaster Autozilla





The Citizen Autozilla has a unique lug attachment to the rubber strap. This means, it is not possible to get third-party straps as replacement. However, there is a way to get around this – Titanium Lug Adapters. There are companies out there that specializes the manufacturing of lug adapters to the Citizen Autozilla. These adapters allow a standard strap to be fitted to the watch.




I was able to find one that is rather affordable from eBay. The item was from a merchant in USA and it is made in Japan. For USD60 (inclusive of USD5 for courier), I get the lugs as well as a free gift of a 24 mm Nato band strap. At the moment I don’t need to use it. In it goes into my parts drawers waiting for the day it will be called for duty.

Honestly buying third-party products as replacements for parts in my watch collection is not something normal to me. Generally, I prefer my watches to be stock, to give the authenticity to the collection. However, in this case, trying to get a replacement strap from Citizen may not be simple exercise since the Autozilla (the quart version is called the Ecozilla) are unique models. It stands to reason parts may not be well stocked and it could take months, if not longer, to get it (hopefully Citizen still have such a thing in stock!!). If Citizen can’t deliver, at least I already got a proxy in hand.

At first I was worried that it would look to big on my wrist because I have quite little arms/hands/wrists but I don't think it looks too bad. And yes, the first time I wore this watch (as shown in the picture above) I did leave the plastic on the watch as I was worried I would scatch it:p
