Throwback Thursday: In4mation x G-Shock GLX-150X-7

Here's a closer look at the G-Shock collaboration model with Hawaii based streetwear label In4mation, following the success of five earlier collab G-Shocks. The GLX-150X-7 is an extension of the redesigned G-LIDE series with a large case design, and offers Tide and Moon Graph functions while seamlessly combining G-Shock’s rugged and tough technology with the In4mation alternative design concept.

Stylistic flourishes include In4mation logo prints on the caseback, band and a hit of red at the strap holder, and of course a custom design cardboard box completes the package.

The In4mation x G-Shock GLX-150X-7 was launched on 6 July 2012, retailing at USD110.

Photo Review of the GAC-110-6A 'Evangeleon Unit 1'






Here's a closer look at one of this month's new releases, and a brand new G-Shock line the GAC-110. We've coined this model the Eva Unit 1, because of its colour scheme being very similar to the bio-mecha from the anime series Neon Genesis Evangeleon.

Vostok Amphibia Compass Bezel 2007

Another one of my Vostok Amphibia(n)s by the Vostok Chistopol Watch Factory.


With a compass bezel... not everyone likes it but I don't mind it... you can still use it to mark time. It rotates.



This is a Vostok Ampibia wrist watch with a Cal. 2416B automatic movement -- self-winding but can be hand wound as well.



The movement is like this one (but not this decorated version of course).

Date of manufacture is marked as 10.07.07 -- tenth day of July in the year of our Lord 2007.



And it cost me RUB 1,300 in 2007 (US$ 36 at current rates).


I wore it from 2007 to 2011.
Used it often for sauna session - at least once a week, which finally was its undoing. Time keeping became very erratic in 2011, sometimes it would stall for no reason, at other times it would be way too fast -- those sauna sessions, I think, got to it.
So early 2012 I replaced it with this Scuba Dude.



Wear and tear -- all mine.The thick acrylic (?) crystal can take a lot punishment but it does not go unnoticed.



Stainless steel bracelet... of the cheaper variety but serves its purpose.

Electronika 5B6-204A

In addition to affordable mechanical watches, cars, radios, etc., I am also into old-school electronic watches and here is a 1984 Electronika 5B6-204A (5Б6-204А) old-school electronic watch from my collection.




Made in 1984 bought in 1985.





If I remember correctly it was me who dropped it and cracked the face glass.

Titanium Lug Adapters for the Citizen Promaster Professional Diver Autozilla

After the rubber strap failures on my Seiko Prospex Emperor Tuna  and Bell & Ross BR02-92  I got really concerned with the rest of the other rubber strapped watches in my collection. When the rubber straps of those watches fail, it should not be difficult to find another strap (definitely not rubber!) as replace except for one watch. This watch is my Citizen Promaster Autozilla





The Citizen Autozilla has a unique lug attachment to the rubber strap. This means, it is not possible to get third-party straps as replacement. However, there is a way to get around this – Titanium Lug Adapters. There are companies out there that specializes the manufacturing of lug adapters to the Citizen Autozilla. These adapters allow a standard strap to be fitted to the watch.




I was able to find one that is rather affordable from eBay. The item was from a merchant in USA and it is made in Japan. For USD60 (inclusive of USD5 for courier), I get the lugs as well as a free gift of a 24 mm Nato band strap. At the moment I don’t need to use it. In it goes into my parts drawers waiting for the day it will be called for duty.

Honestly buying third-party products as replacements for parts in my watch collection is not something normal to me. Generally, I prefer my watches to be stock, to give the authenticity to the collection. However, in this case, trying to get a replacement strap from Citizen may not be simple exercise since the Autozilla (the quart version is called the Ecozilla) are unique models. It stands to reason parts may not be well stocked and it could take months, if not longer, to get it (hopefully Citizen still have such a thing in stock!!). If Citizen can’t deliver, at least I already got a proxy in hand.

At first I was worried that it would look to big on my wrist because I have quite little arms/hands/wrists but I don't think it looks too bad. And yes, the first time I wore this watch (as shown in the picture above) I did leave the plastic on the watch as I was worried I would scatch it:p
